8. FULLNESS OF DEITY IN CHRIST (PHIL 2:5-11)
8. FULLNESS OF DEITY IN CHRIST (PHIL 2:5-11):
After
instructing to look into others’ interests, Paul writes to have that mind among
them, which is theirs in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God,
did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by
taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being
found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of
death, even death on a cross as a sacrifice for the sins of all. The believers
ought to have the mind of Jesus Christ, especially when they are in a
fellowship. Christ had the Godly characteristics, but He humbled Himself by
becoming a normal human being. Though Christ had no sins or blame, He allowed
Himself to be crucified, even to the point of death.
Paul
writes that because Christ humbled Him, God has highly exalted Him and bestowed
on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. God had
given the glory to Jesus Christ, and His name became greater than any other
name, and everyone is expected to praise Jesus by calling His name. The name
of Jesus is acknowledged by everyone in the world since he humbled himself and
came like a man; as even history is divided based on the life of Christ, and
so everyone in the world directly or indirectly acknowledges Christ as Lord,
which glorifies God Almighty.
Stimulations for Self-Reflection:
1. What
kind of mind does Paul instruct us to have? Why?
2. What
are the characteristics of God?
3. Why was Christ born in the likeness of men?
4. What
did Christ do, being in the human form? Why?
5. What
reward did God give because Christ humbled Himself?
6. How was Jesus exalted?
7. How shall we have the mind of Christ?
