10. PAUL SENDS TIMOTHY (PHIL 2:19-24)
10. PAUL SENDS TIMOTHY (PHIL 2:19-24):
Paul
writes to the Philippians that he hopes in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to them
soon, so that he too may be cheered by news of them. For he has no one like
him, who will be genuinely concerned for their welfare. Paul considers Timothy
to be trustworthy to convey the news that he wants to convey to them and bring
back the news from them to him. Also, he emphasizes Timothy’s concern for the
Philippians and states that no one with him genuinely cares for
their well-being than Timothy.
Paul
conveys that they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
But they know Timothy’s proven worth, how, as a son with a father, he has served
with him in the gospel. Many people who were with Paul are concerned about
their own selves and focus on things that are beneficial for them but not on
things that please the Lord Jesus. Paul and Timothy served the people in
Philippi for some time, and that’s why Paul conveys that they know about how worthy Timothy’s work is for the sake of the Gospel and how he is connected with Paul
by taking care of him as a son who would serve his father.
And
Paul states that he hopes therefore to send Timothy just as soon as he sees how
it will go with him, and he trusts in the Lord that shortly he himself will come
also. Paul is very confident about Timothy, and he could foresee the fulfillment
of the objective of sending him to them, and Paul also hopes that he
would also visit them very soon.
Stimulations for Self-Reflection:
1. What
is Paul’s hope?
2. Why does Paul want to send Timothy?
3. Why couldn’t Paul send others?
4. What
are the good characteristics of Timothy?
5. What
does Paul trust to do?
6. How could we be trustworthy for the work of God?
7. How shall we kill our selfish interests?
8. How can we receive a good testimony from others?
9. How shall we show our care and concern towards others?
